Tier 1 Automotive company - national supply of Production Operatives

Pertemps has worked with a Tier 1 automotive supplier for over 14 years – growing from 1 site in the Midlands to 6 across the Midlands, North West and North East through competitive tendering and proven delivery.

Headcount requirements flexed between 200 and 470 heads across a range of roles with a focus on Production Operatives and Team Leaders, Quality Technicians, FLT Drivers and Admin roles.

 

 

The implementation of a dedicated contract management team was designed to provide the client with a centralised focus aligned to their strategic goals and operational control, overseeing each localised delivery team.

While local account teams interact daily / weekly with site management, formal review meetings with national stakeholders drive continuous improvement throughout the lifetime of the contract.

Improvement initiatives have often been developed organically through the review cycle or are sometimes born through problem-solving. One example of a successful initiative is a ‘banked hours’ scheme that was implemented in 2019.  Developed to counter projected attrition predicted due to a planned month-long shut down at one site.  The scheme was suggested by Pertemps, co-developed with the client and implemented across the temporary workforce prior to shut-down.  Developed as a voluntary scheme, it prepared staff for the time they would not be on-site and allowed them to manage their finances effectively, thus preventing wide-scale attrition and ensured the client returned after shut-down to a fully staffed operation.

 

 

Other examples of improvement initiatives implemented successfully include:

• Train the Trainer courses for FLT assessments and refreshers, keeping Pertemps in control of refresher courses enabling improved quality, retention and deployment
• Restructure of on-site team hours to ensure the optimum coverage, aligned to shift start/finish times, improving our availability to our workers to include those working night shifts. We also offered flexible hours to ensure our delivery team have the correct work/life balance as this promotes better productivity 
• Management of inductions on the client’s behalf – an extremely successful initiative, saving the client time, cost and improving retention. By managing the full end to end process we better prepare workers for their assignment and results include a 37% increase in commitment / new starter attendance and a 17% improvement in first 4-week retention.
